SUMMARY:DEI, Open Source Software & Mainframe (MF) Transformation, Illustr
ated via a MF Database Performance Example
DESCRIPTION:Thomas Halinski (CMG, Broadcom)\n\nIn this session we will sta
rt with an explanation of diversity in Open Source Software and its positi
ve effects in the IT Industry. We will then review the definition of what
a REST API is and what the open-source project of Zowe is. Then we’ll take
a look at an example of Open Source Software for a performance monitoring
use case, using sophisticated open-source tools to visualize performance
metrics exposed by an API. The comparison of the original performance rep
ort with the Transformed Open Source version is outstanding. \nOur exampl
e will be based on the open-source software of Zowe with an API for a MF d
atabase of IDMS, but can be used wit Db2, IMS or any MF database. The tec
hniques are general and can be applied to any product that exposes perform
ance metrics through a REST API.\n\nTrack: Languages, API's and Framework,
Open Source, Performance and Capacity Management, Zowe, Women in IT (WIT)
\n\nAudience Level: All Audiences\n\nLearning Objectives: Modernize Data M
 anagement and Analytics\n\n
