DescriptionMost mainframe shops running modern backup and archival software already have years of Db2, IMS, and VSAM data sitting in object storage — in proprietary binary format that no analytics tool can touch. This session challenges the assumption that getting mainframe data into the cloud analytics estate requires a complex integration project. We will walk through a data-first modernisation pattern that converts existing mainframe backup files to open formats (Parquet, Avro, JSON) without touching the mainframe, consuming MIPS, or deploying new z/OS software. Attendees will leave with a framework for identifying which of their existing data assets are already cloud-adjacent, a practical approach to estimating MIPS offload savings from analytics workload migration, and an honest assessment of where batch-based data liberation is sufficient versus where CDC is genuinely required.
Why submit this: It is the purest expression of your product's value proposition delivered as practitioner education. The "you already have this data, you just can't read it" framing is provocative enough to attract session attendees and accurate enough to hold up under DBA scrutiny.
